Happenin in The Valley * Downtown Gallery Stroll {a day early}

Tonight!

Downtown Provo Gallery Stroll
Thu. July 3, 2008 6-11 pm

The month of July is special in that the first Friday falls on the 4th of July. As such, the Stroll will be moved back one night, to Thursday, July 3. Utah County Art Gallery will hold their opening reception Mon. July 7.

Debuting at the Sego Art Center is “Brandon Boulton,” a solo sculptural installation. An amorphous cloud like plume takes over the entire room and reconsiders the gallery space. Minimal in its themes, Boulton’s installation deals with time and space, material and environment.

The Utah County Art Gallery is pleased to announce their annual Children’s Freedom Art Show, a juried show featuring art by more than 100 local children. A special Awards ceremony will be held at 7 and 8pm, Monday, July 7.

Cassandra Barney spearheads a group show, “Night Music” at Mode Boutique featuring works by herself, her husband Dan, and another couple, Zack and Brenda Taylor. The group has envisioned a fresh new concept for this show, creating all new works dealing with dreams in different media.

Coal Umbrella will also have a new artist, Ike Bushman, presenting new paintings, with an opening reception from 6-11pm July 3rd.

Happenin in the Valley * Sundance Film Festival

A great big thing of note about Our Valley- Sundance just happens to be here! Today is the opening day of the Sundance Film Festival. The Resort is in our county not really in The Valley but up Our Canyon. Although most of the festivities do not happen at Sundance Resort, Sundance does do screenings at the resort. As far as Sweet Things Happenin in Our Valley this is one that is at the top. Because of the writers strike word about town is that many of these Indi Films have a pretty darn good chance of getting signed to go nation wide. Opening film for the festival is “In Bruges” by playwright Martin McDonagh. The festival runs from January 17th- January 27th. There are a 120 films in the festival this year. Pretty much at this point in the game everything is sold-out. But there is news. You can head over to one of the screenings and be on the wait list. You basically wait in line & hope they have room at the last minute. You have to get there early so bring some cards to play or a book to read. I have done this before & a good amount of those who wait-list do get into the screening.
